SWINGWEIGHT AND PUTTERS
Does the real secret to sinking more putts actually lie within the swingweight of your putter? It may feel like it at times but swingweight isn’t some mystical term used to try and summon the putting gods. Swingweight is all about finding the perfect "feel" for your putter, the one that makes it dance like a partner who can always predict your next step. Let’s dive in with some help from our friends at Edel Golf and their new Array Putter line.
Think of it this way: your putter is like a dance partner. If it's too light, it's all wobbly jigs and missed steps. Too heavy, and it becomes a clunky two-step, struggling to find its rhythm. Finding the right swingweight is like nailing that perfect waltz – it's all about balance and control. At least that’s what the people who helped me write this analogy told me, I wouldn’t really know… I’m a terrible dancer.
HOW TO CHANGE IT
There’s actually several ways of changing the swingweight of your flatstick, and it can be even easier than changing the swingweight of your other clubs. Depending on whether you want to raise or lower swingweight is going to determine which method you’ll want to use to accomplish your goals.
The first, easiest, and usually most popular method is to change out the head weights on your putter. Putter families like the Edel Golf Array Putter line have adjustable head weights that can be changed out in a matter of seconds to easily experiment with different swingweights. Just keep in mind that by changing the headweight of your putter you’re not only changing the swingweight of the putter but you’re also messing with the overall M.O.I of the putter as well as the forgiveness that the putter potentially can offer. If you don’t have interchangeable weights on the bottom of your putter, you can always rely on our friend lead tape to get yourself sorted.
WORTH A LOOK
So, the next time you're battling those pesky three-putts, remember – it might not be all in your head. We say: blame the putter! Take a swing at experimenting with your swingweight. Who knows, you might just discover a completely new feel and unlock a new level of performance in your game. Just remember, it's all about finding that perfect dance partner on the greens.
