HOW DOES GRIP SIZE AFFECT YOUR GAME?

The ideal grip size for every golfer is going to be different, and it’s going to depend on several factors. With some help from our sponsor SuperStroke, and their Traxion Series of Club Grips, we’re going to dispel all the myths about grip size and explain what it does, and doesn’t do, to your game.

The best way to find the right grip size for you is to get your hands on the grips in a demo area and feel them out. If you’re unable to do that then here are a couple of guidelines based on glove size. We also did a full length breakdown about finding the right golf grip size for your game which you can read here if you haven’t already.

An undersized grip size is going to be most suited for a Men’s S or Ladies S, M glove size.

A standard grip size is going to be most suited for a Men’s M, ML or Ladies M, L glove size.

A midsize grip is going to be most suited for a Men’s L or XL glove size.

An oversized grip is going to be most suited for a Men’s L or XL glove size.

Feel vs Data

When selecting a golf grip the decision should be about 90% what feels comfortable to you, and 10% what that grip may do for performance. The truth is, grip size has a tendency to be over-emphasized, and it’s actual performance differences have more to do with how it makes the clubs feel in your hands, and how that feeling allows you to swing the club than it makes a difference strictly within your launch data.

There will never be a circumstance within your game where you should feel the need to switch grip sizes to change some sort of variable within your data. The only time you may find a performance decrease is if you are using a grip that is completely the wrong size for you. And if that’s the case, you’ll feel uncomfortable enough before you even see the data to know that it’s not right. The most important thing is that the size you play fits your hand and that you enjoy the grips that you play!
