The ears of golf geeks everywhere perked up in late 2021 as the Mitsubishi Kai’li series of shafts was introduced. Some may remember the days of the Diamana Kai’li golf shafts with their incredible feel, added firmness in the tip and handle sections compared to similar profile golf shafts, and their lower torque properties. Today’s Kai’li is getting its own dedicated lineup available in White, Blue, and Red profiles with the same promises for dependable power and feel in the hand’s of today’s modern golfer. The shaft has been played to fame on Tour by the likes of Xander Schauffele and Rory McIllroy, but available as a stock option to golfers in many of the industry’s leading manufacturers. Let’s dive into the new Kai’li lineup and see which one may be right for your game.

As stated previously, the Kai’li lineup is available in three different models and Mitsubishi continues their tradition of a color coded profile system with a white, blue, and red offering. Each model has a reinforced tip section with their tried-and-true MR70 material, as well as the introduction of their new SLRC (Super Low Resin Content) pre-preg material. The Kai’li White is also the first whiteboard profile golf shaft from Mitsubishi that incorporates a tapered butt section design for increased feel typically not associated with low launch/ low spin offering; a feature that was also engineered into the design of the Kai’li Blue. Each shaft in the Kai’li lineup has been built with less than typical torque for their profile in response to the modern golfer being stronger, faster, and more aggressive. This lower torque value allows these shafts to return to center better at impact, creating a more consistent playing experience regardless of which profile suits your game.

The Kai’li White is a low launch/low spin offering for player’s with an aggressive transition who desire the most stability and power from their golf shafts. With the stoutest tip section available in the Kai’li lineup, higher speed players will find comfort in the profile that Mitsubishi is touting as its stiffest retail profile currently available from their brand. Their taper-butt technology has allowed Mitsubishi to create this incredibly stout profile without losing the feel that golfers require by tapering the golf shaft in the handle section which gives the profile a softer overall feel in the hands without sacrificing any performance benefits. Kai’li White is available from 60R to 80TX offerings as an aftermarket part, and is available as a stock option in several manufactures including Callaway Paradym Triple Diamond, Cobra AeroJet LS, and Ping G430 LST.

Golfers with a smoother tempo and transition will find themselves at home in the Kai’li Blue without having to sacrifice the power and stability that typically scares a modern golfer from going away from a white profile offering. By lowering the torque values in the Kai’li Blue compared to other shafts with the same profile, they’ve allowed stronger players the ability to play a golf shaft that adds a touch of launch and spin to their game, something that can be extremely useful particularly as an addition in a fairway wood. Kai’li Blue is available from 50R to 80TX offerings as an aftermarket part as well as available as a stock shaft in several manufacturers both in drivers and fairway woods.

Rounding out the lineup is Kai’li Red which is the best option for golfers requiring additional launch and spin to their game. The market is shrouded in tons of low launch/low spin equipment from driver heads to golf balls, and the Kai’li Red is aimed at maintaining whiteboard-like stability with the launch and spin add that some players may need to hit their ideal launch conditions. This red profile is typically thought of as reserved for slower players who can’t get the ball to launch, and while those players will still find themselves at home with a lightweight Kai’li Red option available as light and soft as 50R2, that shouldn’t stop stronger swingers from trying out the Kai’li Red options available in heavier and stiffer options up to 80TX. You’ll see Kai’li Red available as the high launch offering for stock shafts in numerous manufacturers equipment.
